yep, this is probably what you are thinking. i was too until i enjoyed this delicious veggie down south many years ago...and i've brought it back to the kitchen. sexy little veggie, it's actually a yellow turnip & also falls into the root veggie category. it can be prepared much like butternut squash but is a lot easier to work with. pick one up in your local grocery store & join this rutabaga journey with me...
{rosemary rutabaga fries}
ingredients {in order of use}
*serves 2-4
- 1 large rutabaga
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- salt & pepper, to taste
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons rosemary, minced
1. pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
2. using a veggie peeler, peel waxy, outer skin of rutabaga. slice into "fries" {or cubes} & toss in a large mixing bowl.
add olive oil, salt & pepper, garlic & rosemary; stir to coat evenly.3. toss onto a baking sheet. cook for 25 minutes, toss & finish cooking until browned all over. enjoy!
