Green Jacket Salad

{to be read in your best southern voice or interpretation...}

tea time at the masters is a staple cookbook in every southern woman's home. whether you cook or not, its visual existence in ones kitchen reads: "i'm a classy, southern belle". i was at a friend's {jessica lowe} baby shower today & the host made green jacket salad. IT. WAS. PHENOMENAL!

and with the master's tournament only 3 weeks away, i'll be bringing you some southern master's specials to try during that week...because lets be honest ladies, the only interaction you will have with a man will be the food you put between he & the tv.

source: tea time at the masters

Ingredients {in order of use}

  • 1 slice pita bread
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • green onions
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons lawry's seasoning salt
  • 2 teaspoons accent {found in the seasoning aisle}
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh parsley
  • 1/2 head of lettuce

1. to make croutons, separate pita bread, tear into small pieces and brown slightly in oven until bread is crisp.

2. after you chop the tomatoes “squish” them in your hands so as to get the juice of the tomato out into the mixture, then put pulp and juice into bowl.

3. mix all ingredients {except lettuce} with tomato mixture. mix well.

4. shred lettuce & place in a large bowl.

5. pour chilled dressing mixture over lettuce & pita, mix together well. serve!

the masters...a tradition like no other.

  1. The original salad was made with corn oil, only iceberg lettuce, and topped with Parmesan Cheese. Got the recipe from a waitress who worked at the original Green Jacket restaurant. The recipe is actually in "Second Round, Tea Time at the Masters" but it is not the real recipe
